Because using trash to treasure in the title is literally all over, I'm making it a point to call it something different. I also joing the Useful DIY Challenge over on YouTube, hosted by MomDas Life Handmade and Michelle's Cozy Home. Check out the whole playlist over here!
So , what useless junk did I use?
First, 3 glass bottles from some Starbucks drinks. I painted those and boom, now they're decor pieces.
I also snagged a few tubes from our fireworks display on the 4th to make some faux plant vases. Just add some spray paint and contact paper.
Finally, repurposing an old sign. I've had this for ages, and I wanted to change it up. I got a really good fortune in a cookie recently and I wanted to put it on a sign and hang it or display it in my office area. I don't have a Cricut or Silhouette machine so I used another method to add my design. Here's a little tutorial for you!
Here's the sign. My husband actually found it and brought it home a few years ago.
I printed out my phrase on regular printer paper, then painted the back side white. After cutting out the phrase, I took Mod Podge and put a layer on the board. Then I placed the text and smoothed it out. Then another layer of Mod Podge over it. I think it needs something else, so I'm going to paint some thin lines on the ends.
Once that dried completely (24 hours later) I covered the whole thing carefully in a thin layer of Mod Podge. It did make my ink bleed, I don't know why that is, but I'll see what I can do to fix that later.
Here's the final look!
I am excited about having this on display, as a reminder to believe in myself and my path. What are your inspiring art pieces? Drop me a line and let me know!
