This project is thanks to an open invitation I found on YouTube by Coffee With My Sunshine. She has a playlist full of trash to treasure projects from a bunch of fantastic DIY Youtubers.
So since she put out the call, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to get on a project that I had in mind a couple weeks ago.
I follow the ketogenic way of eating, and one of the things I miss most is milk. There are 12 grams of carbs in one 8 oz. glass of whole milk. That's 3/4 of my carb allowance for the day! So I found Fairlife Ultra-Filtered milk, and it only has 6 carbs per 8 oz.
Because I use this frequently, I build up waste from the plastic jugs, so I thought to myself, "Self, how can we recycle this?" "Let's make some vases or pen holders or something!" (yes, i do carry on conversations with myself) Alright, let's make something! I had 3, one was a chocolate milk jug so it was brown, of course. Nothing some paint can't fix. My goal was to only use what I have, not spend any extra money, which was really easy since I didn't have any to spend!
So I washed them out well, and decided to cut them down in different heights to stagger the look. Then went ahead and spray painted them white with the cheap Family Dollar spray paint I have on hand. And I mean cheap, I might get one more small project out of this can that I have barely used.
Right, so overall, they don't look horrible on their own, but I have some jute twine, so I thought I would just wrap that around where the little indented lines are. Little bit of hot glue and Alene's Jewel It to secure it in place.
Each one is different heights and will have one, two or three sections of twine wrapped. The one I show in the video has 2 sections.
Add in some florals and you have a cute little vase!
Here they are all finished!
(don't mind my "vintage" stove in the background, I'm hoping for a new one soon!)
It's pretty cool to be able to make something new and useful from what would otherwise be sitting in a landfill for 1000 years. What are some fun trash to treasure projects you've tried? Let me know!
Don't forget to go check out the full video and take a look at the rest of the playlist over on my YouTube channel!
